When Waters Rise: One Year Later

Posted by Shandon Baptist Church on

ONE YEAR LATER, HEAVY RAIN STILL MAKES US A LITTLE NERVOUS.

What about you?

On this first anniversary of the "1,000 Year Flood," with a hurricane in the forecast, the memories of rising waters are still fresh in our minds. When memories come like waves crashing over our thoughts and dislodging our emotions, what are we to do?

When fears swell in our heart and threaten to overflow  the banks of our self-control, what are we to do?

WE REMEMBER SOMETHING ELSE.

We remember our God...

  • the God who rescued, and still rescues.

"The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him, And rescues them." (Psalm  37:4)

"Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I shall rescue you, and you will honor Me.” (Psalm  50:15)

"For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son..." (Colossians 1:13)
  • the God who provided, and still provides.

"And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:19)
  • the God who saw you, and still sees you.

"I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you." (Psalm 32:8)
"My eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me..." (Psalm 101:6)
  • the God who comforted, and still comforts

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,  who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God." (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)
  • the Savior  who died, and yet still  lives

"Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life." (Romans 6:4)

Down in the valley, when waters rise
I'm still believing
Hope is alive
All through the struggle and darkest day
I'll remember the empty grave

EARL AND CYNTHIA'S STORY

Earl and Cynthia Pierce were one  of many families who saw their home destroyed by the flood of October 2015. Here's their testimony of God's faithfulness. (We all have one. What's yours?)
